Marchh Glossary

The Marchh Glossary defines the verified terms used to explain how walking and running activities can become eligible virtual territory. These definitions describe Marchh product concepts, not physical property or survey terminology.

Use the anchored definitions below as a quick reference, then follow the related guides for practical detail. Marchh intentionally keeps these terms on one page instead of publishing thin definition URLs.

Activity

An intentionally started Walk or Run recorded by Marchh. An activity can contain accepted route, time, distance and pace information without necessarily creating territory.

Activity history

The Marchh area where supported past activity information can be maintained and reviewed. Activity history describes outings; it is not identical to current territory ownership.

Closed route

Recorded route geometry that returns around sufficiently to enclose an area that Marchh can evaluate. Visual closeness alone does not guarantee eligible geometry.

GPS

Satellite-assisted device positioning used with other phone and operating-system information to estimate location. Marchh uses accepted location samples to represent supported real-world movement.

GPS accuracy

The quality and uncertainty of an estimated location. Hardware, buildings, trees, terrain, tunnels, satellite visibility, permission and system behavior can affect it.

Location permission

The device-level control that allows Marchh to receive location for features that need it. Users control this permission through supported operating-system settings.

Pace

An activity metric calculated from movement information and time. Because the underlying location record can vary, pace is useful product context rather than a guaranteed physical measurement.

Precise Location

A supported platform setting that can allow an app to receive more precise location instead of an approximate area. Marchh Support recommends enabling it where available when a route needs useful location detail.

Route

The ordered geometry created from accepted location samples during an activity. A route can remain an open line or return around to form a candidate covered area.

Run

A Marchh activity type for recording a running session with supported location information. A Run may be evaluated for territory but is valuable as an activity record even without a claim.

Shared map

The common Marchh map state where virtual territory geometry and ownership associations may be visible to other users. It is distinct from a single person's private route record.

Territory

A virtual area that Marchh can create from qualifying closed movement after applying current geometry, location-quality, integrity and conflict rules.

Territory ownership

The current association between a Marchh account and virtual territory on the shared map. It can change and creates no possession, access permission or legal interest in physical land.

Virtual territory

A digital area shown within Marchh that can be created from qualifying real-world movement. It exists only inside the Marchh experience and does not create ownership or access rights over physical land.

Walk

A Marchh activity type for recording walking with supported location information. Eligible closed walking geometry may create territory after validation.
