GPS Accuracy for Walking and Running

Walking and running GPS accuracy depends on device hardware, satellite visibility, surroundings, permissions and operating-system behavior; no route, distance or pace measurement is guaranteed to be exact.

Marchh builds activity information from accepted location samples. Better conditions can improve the input, but even a correctly configured phone can produce drift or gaps.

Buildings and indoor spaces

Tall buildings can reflect or block satellite signals, producing a shifted or zig-zagging route. Indoor spaces often reduce satellite visibility further.

Move to an open outdoor area and allow the device to establish a usable location before starting when practical.

Trees, terrain and tunnels

Dense tree cover, steep terrain and other obstructions can reduce the sky visible to the phone. Tunnels can remove satellite access entirely for part of a route.

A missing or low-quality section can affect distance, pace, route closure and covered-area geometry.

Location permissions

Location Services must be enabled and Marchh needs location permission for its movement features. Precise Location should be enabled where available if the product is expected to record a useful route.

Removing permission can prevent maps, activity recording, covered-area calculation or territory capture from operating correctly.

Background activity and battery behavior

With the necessary permission, Marchh may continue receiving location for an intentionally started activity while backgrounded or while the device is locked.

Operating-system battery or background settings can interrupt that behavior. Check them before a longer activity if recording previously stopped unexpectedly.

What Marchh does with poor data

Marchh may ignore points that do not meet accuracy or integrity requirements and may reject an activity or territory result that appears corrupted, implausible, duplicated or manipulated.

This means a recorded outing and an accepted territory claim are different outcomes. Contact support for repeated technical problems with device model, operating-system version, Marchh version and a non-sensitive description.

Questions people ask

Can Marchh guarantee exact GPS measurements?

No. Marchh's Terms explicitly say route, coordinate, pace, distance, covered area, territory boundary and map position are not guaranteed to be exact.

Does restarting recover missing GPS points?

No. Restarting cannot necessarily restore location information that the device failed to record.
